    Linux Or Vista: What do I do? Last update 19 March, 2007
Price
You need to buy a new pc to make Vista decent value. The basic version of Vista is around £150. The fancy version is £300. Ubuntu Linux : is free.
 
Speed
Vista is incredibly slow in starting - 7 Minutes with 512Mbytes, 3 1/2 minutes with 1Gbyte of Memory. It can be unbelievablely slow if trying to operate at 512 Mb. Linux loads in 3 minutes with 196 Mbytes of RAM.
 
Software
Vista uses Internet Explorer for internet and the £200 MS Office for office software Linux uses Firefox for internet and the FREE OpenOffice for office software. Openoffice and Firefox come preinstalled.
 
Ease of Use
Vista is a big step forward. It asks lots of questions when you want to do something and will bamboozel the normal user. Linux is a big change but it easy to do the basics.
 
Security
Vista needs antispyware and antvirus software, both of which may cost money. Linux doesn't need any antispyware and antvirus software because there no spyware of viruses work in Linux !
